Image is Everything

 

Today I want to talk about the ever sensitive topic, Body Image. I'm going to be honest here... The way I look at myself has fluctuated over the years. There have been times where I can say that I've honestly felt beautiful at times; I'd look in the mirror and like exactly what I saw. However, there are other times when the mirror seems to amplify every imperfection. I'll be breaking out, my makeup is caked on, my clothes just aren't fitting right and my hair can do no right. Then I'll look closer and pick out every detail that I find wrong with my body.

It's hard to feel 100% confident with your body. There's always something you'll wish to improve on. We are exposed to countless airbrushed ads and unrealistic standards. We have to realize something though... We are beautiful. It's hard to come to terms with those three words, but it's true. We should be happy with how we look, despite our imperfections, which everyone does have.

 

 

Don't Double Cross Me

She's pretty excited, no, extraordinarily excited. She's grabbin' a home girl and heading to a bigger town for a weekend. Not just any weekend though, the Kansas City Fashion Week. It's going to be spectacular.

ABOUT THE LOOK: I'm not a super big fan of upside down crosses, but this dress was simply beautiful! The fit laid perfectly on me and I still love the asymmetrical trend. I mixed different styles here; I'm satisfied with the result. The dress has a somewhat rocker-chic vibe, but the necklace sends a tribal feel. Mixing trends and styles always seems to result in something marvelous. Give it try!

Living Comic

It's one of those side-step, tuck and roll, jump over the brick wall and whack the turtle ninja on the head with an incredibly light super hammer type of days. What does all that mean? Heck if she knows, but it perfectly explains how she feels at the moment. Being in college, being a young adult, you have to try different looks because you still don't know who you truly are until you put your hair in a faux hawk, your body in a leather mesh body suit and your booty in a skirt filled with comic strip phrases.

ABOUT THE LOOK: I don't really do many looks like this, but I love it! It gives me an excuse to act crazy because I look the part. I got the skirt from Rue 21, the body suit from Ooh La Luxe and the shoes from a thrift shop! The skirt is my favorite part; so bright and colorful and OUT THERE! But you have to be careful about what you mix with it. Notice how I used all black for everything else so that the outfit isn't over powerful.

Denim Days #4

 Is this all the world has to offer her? War, corruption, hatred, loveless-lives, tears, that thumping in her chest caused after she listens to the news. The world is full of life, but seems to be lacking love. She wants to change people's lives. She wants to help people in need. Feed the hungry, give to the poor. If everybody just that, the world could finally be harmonious.

ABOUT THE LOOK: For this denim shirt look, I went all artsy fartsy. Acid wash jeans that I can't if they're purple or an awkward blue, cheetah print shoes, retro glasses and a hat! That's what I'm talking about. Clothes are all about being able to express yourself and, let me tell you, wearing this was the most fun shoot so far because I didn't care if I looked silly or was acting stupid. This outfit let me be me. How revolutionary. I don't care who you are, what you look like, or what your style is; let your inner artist out and put on something extraordinarily crazy and just walk around in it!

 BEHIND THE SCENES: What better to do in the middle of downtown than attempting (And hardcore failing) parcore on a brick wall?! I also claimed a chunk of cement as my own!
